TG4 pulled off yet another major coup last night, as they started broadcasting season one of ‘Breaking Bad‘, AMC’s runaway success detailing the trials and tribulations of a gifted high-school chemistry teacher, who, and we don’t want to spoil anything here, when confronted with a terminal illness decides to resort to desperate measures to provide for his loved ones when he’s gone. Using Television Advertising Power To Your Advantage
People often forget the power of media presence like television and radio. Adverts between programmes are great for targeting your audience, but what about actual in-show advertisements as well?
Grafton Media are experts in all kinds of media and advertising, and in this post we look at the sheer power of the media and how you can use it to boost your personal and your company’s reputation.
From February, product placement has been allowed in UK television shows, much like it is abroad in the US, as long as the PP Sign (left) is shown. The controversial idea that attracts advertisers so much is that when you, the consumer, see the cast of a show using a product, it will rub off on you in some way and then you’re likely to buy that product over others, or create a wanting for the product that wasn’t there before.
To get your product seen on all the major television shows and series, you’ll need to contact all the production companies connected to the shows you want it seen on. Alternatively you can get a media agency to do it for you, as they have all the contacts required to fast-track your product onto the shows already, and can strike up good deals with the producers too.
What about Personal usage?
Although it seems obvious, you’re also able to promote yourself or boost your own personal web presence through what you say and do on TV. On ITV2 the last weekend, Gary Barlow uploaded his first post to Twitter and made sure the audience knew he was doing it by advertising it on the show. Within seconds Twitter was struggling to cope with the demand of people flooding to the site to add @GBarlowOfficial to their profiles. We tracked the changes on his profile below, from 521 followers within 1 minute of posting, up to 60,328 followers after just 16 minutes:

At the time of writing (Monday, 18 hours after he first posted), he now has just under 300,000 followers. Imagine if this was your business he was promoting. If you could get a mere third of those followers, it would boost your Twitter presence by 100,000 in such a short time!
The two easiest (term used lightly) ways to get your product or website featured by a celebrity on TV would be:
- Celebrity endorsementsThis might be costly as you’ll have to pay them to use or promote your product on air, and you’ll need to overcome any limitations placed by show producers, but it ensures your product is featured on mainstream TV.
- Become a cool companyEveryone loves a cool company! If you’re doing such a great job, eventually someone will endorse your product on screen. Becoming a cool company takes a lot of hard work and great customer service but will have benefits in other areas too.
Whichever route you go down, Grafton Media can help you on the way! We know all the right channels to go through to get your product featured on your favourite shows. Contact us today to see how we can deliver your product or service to the masses.
